“And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.” Romans 6:13
If you’re like me, you may have had this invisible checkbox next to this verse. Most of us, at some time or another, have seen this verse and thought “members” pertained to..let’s say…unmentionable parts, primarily to sexual intimacy. Logically then, you think to yourself, ‘Whew! I’m not fornicating, nor am I committing adultery!’, so the box gets the proverbial check mark, and we move on to the next verse.
Thank you Jesus! Next!
But, in prayer, and in His presence recently, I have been helped in seeing this verse in new light.
How do we normally see? How do most of us process the world around us? Through our five senses. I wonder if the Lord is commissioning a daily rededication of my eyes, to see His face clearly through the world. Our ears, that we hear His still small voice louder than the noise. Our hands, that they might touch, like the Good Samaritan, the one everyone else passes by. My nose, that reminds me to be a sweet smelling aroma to my God through my actions. Finally, our mouths…surrendering to Jesus, and allowing our words to bring only encouragement and life.
Try telling Jesus this new plan for your members. Present them to Him as an offering. Let’s pray every day, until surrender becomes a habit, until submission becomes ordinary, and until we’re changed from glory to glory.
Until we see Him face to face,
